Body Lotion, Made From What Skin Is Made Of
If your lotion wears off by lunch, it's not you. Most formulas are mostly water and seed oils, which do very little to help skin hold on to moisture.
Ours is built on grass-fed tallow, organic coconut oil and unrefined shea butter, fats that mirror your skin's own barrier, with cholesterol, vitamins B5 and E and a probiotic ferment.
The secret is timing. Skin is at its most hydrated right after bathing, so smoothing lotion on within three minutes traps that water in instead of letting it evaporate.
Soft, comfortable skin for everyone in the house, at a price that works for a whole-family bottle.
We hope you love it as much as we do.

The Research Behind It
Published studies on these ingredients, summarized in our own words. They describe the ingredients, not tests of this product.
-
In two studies, researchers damaged skin's barrier with tape stripping or repeated washing with a harsh detergent, then treated it with glycerol, the same humectant as our coconut glycerin. Glycerol-treated sites repaired their barrier faster and held significantly more moisture, with benefits still visible a week after treatment ended.

UCSF dermatology researchers tested a naturally occurring lipid mixture of animal origin, rich in cholesterol and fatty acids. In human volunteers, it sped up barrier recovery after the skin was stripped and significantly raised skin moisture within two hours, even on normal skin. It's the idea behind feeding skin real animal fats like tallow.

Researchers found water on skin gives only a short-lived benefit because it evaporates quickly, while ingredients like glycerol extend hydration by slowing that evaporation. It's the science behind applying lotion to damp skin.

Creams with 1% or 5% panthenol, the provitamin form of B5, significantly reduced water loss through the skin after 30 days of daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. It's a light lotion, not a balm, so it absorbs within a minute or two and you can get dressed right away.
-
Skin is most hydrated right after bathing. Lotion applied within a few minutes helps hold that moisture in longer.
-
Barely anything. There's no added fragrance, just a faint, clean scent from the natural butters.
-
The formula uses Lactobacillus ferment, a fermentation-derived ingredient rather than live cultures, so it stays stable in the bottle.
-
It contains water, and anything with water needs protection from mold and bacteria. We use Geogard™ with a probiotic ferment instead of parabens or phenoxyethanol. Our balms are water-free, so they don't need one.

It's formulated for the body. For your face, try our Squalane Facial Oil or a Shwally face cream.
